Thought for the Day

Devotion is that wonderful frame of mind found in one who is entirely devoted to God.

Deuteronomy 6:5; 5And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”

Deuteronomy 10:12;12And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,”

Psalm 37:5; “3    Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4    Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5    Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. 6    And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.”

Thought for the Day

I was thinking, today, about a poster someone had put up in the restaurant where I was working, before my army experience, that has haunted me ever since. It was a drawing of a G.I. drowning in the ocean. He’s just barely got his head above water. He’s desperately pointing one finger toward us and saying two words, “Someone talked.” Boy, that was heavy at the time. Someone had talked, and he was the victim of someone’s loose lips. Well, that war is long over, but those loose lips are still causing fatalities. I firmly believe:

Proverbs 18:7; 7A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.”

We’ve spread the poison to other people and we’ve victimized our brother with our loose lips; the gossip about another person that marks their most precious possession, their reputation; those critical words spoken behind someone’s back; those angry words that were spoken to someone’s face. Our Politicians are a great example of “Loose Lips”.

Psalms 34:13; 13    Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.”

We can sink people’s lives with our words. World War II soldiers were warned not to say the things they could say, because they were wanting to save lives. That’s still an important warning and maybe it’s a time for us to pray as the Holy Spirit points this out inside us,

Proverbs 21:23; 23Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.”

Lord, help me to stop this tongue of mine before more hurting words come out; i know that the tongue has the power of life and death.

Proverbs 18:21; 21Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Loose lips do sink ships and people, and we know:

James 3:5; 5Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!”

May we never be the guilty party to the sinking of another person. To be that someone who talked. That someone who knew better. Help us to remember:

Proverbs 15:26; 26The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.”

Mark 13:10; 10And the gospel must first be published among all nations.”

I love the fact that the Bible calls the Gospel, the Good News of Jesus, “the power of God.” In fact, a word for today comes from Romans 1 where Paul says:

Romans 1:16; 16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;…”

Galatians 1:11; 11But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.”

1 Corinthians 9:14;14Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.”2 Corinthians 4:3 – 4; “3But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:  4In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”

Ephesians 6:14 – 16;14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;  15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;  16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”

Philippians 1:7;7Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.”

Acts 20:24;24But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.”

2 Thessalonians 2:13 – 15;13But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:  14Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.  15Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle”.

Matthew 10:19 – 20; 19But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.  20For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.”

Thought for the Day

Our problem today, is that most of us are too strong in our hearts, minds and abilities for God to use. Perhaps you have noticed that God uses only weak men and women. First Corinthians tells us that this is so…. God used all of these judges but not because they were capable or outstanding. Does that encourage you?

1 Corinthians 1:26–27; 26For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;”

1 Chronicles 6:32; 32And they ministered before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, until Solomon had built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem: and then they waited on their office according to their order.”

Sounds like we all have a chance!

MORALITY WITHOUT GOD?

“Most U.S. adults now say it is not necessary to believe in God to be moral and have good values (56%), up from about half (49%) who expressed this view in 2011. This increase reflects the continued growth in the share of the population that has no religious affiliation, but it also is the result of changing attitudes among those who do identify with a religion, including  evangelical Protestants”. Even among those claiming to be religious – no matter what race, an increasing number of people believe that God is unnecessary for morality.

At the biblical time of the Judges, everyone did what was right in his own eyes”,

Judges 17:6; 6In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.”

….and we see this phenomenon increasing in society today! However, the prophet Isaiah stated clearly:

Isaiah 8:20; 20To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”

Morality without God and without a biblical basis is nothing more than actions based on personal preferences – and this ultimately leads to confusion and division when everyone is doing “what is right in his (or her) own eyes”! True morality rests on a common set of laws or standards that determine what is right and wrong. Historically, for much of the Western world, the source of moral understanding was the Bible – the only true and constant source of morality. As nations discard the Bible as a source of truth, personal opinion becomes the basis for right and wrong. Are you prepared?  He is coming!

Matthew 24:27; 27For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

Thought for the Day

It is people that are bringing on “The End of Time” They have succumbed to the “Prince of this World”. That includes politicians, pastors and people. It has become quite obvious that far too many of us (God’s Children) make a career out of judging and condemning one-another even when we know that our Lord is the only judge.

We have already been forgiven by His sacrifice.

Romans 8:1;1There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

Colossians 3:13 – 14; 13Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.  14And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.”

And never forget:

Mark 12:30 – 31;30And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.  31And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”

Luke 6:35; 35But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.”

Luke 6:37; 37Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:”

1 John 2:15 – 16; 15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

Thought for the Day

We are “Ambassadors of Peace” based on what the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians.

2 Corinthians 5:20; 20Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.”

This week, I’ve been thinking a lot about that verse as it compares to:

Isaiah 33:7; 7Behold, their valiant ones shall cry without: the ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly.”

….which says that during the soon-coming Great Tribulation, “the ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly”.

2 Corinthians 5:20; 20Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.”

Matthew 24:21-22; 21For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.  22And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.”

Isaiah’s prophecy refers to the ambassadors of this PRESENT EVIL WORLD. These are ambassadors who fully reject God and the veracity of His divinely inspired laws. They believe our modern world, with all of its glitz and glamour, is continually getting better -that the more we accommodate and celebrate evil, the more we make progress. Human nature is innately good, they say. Jeremiah says human nature is deceitful and desperately wicked.

Jeremiah 17:9; 9The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

Only when this civilization goes up in flames will these ambassadors finally come to see their tragic error. And the Bible says they will mourn and weep uncontrollably.

But there is hope for this dying world! It can be found in those who walk righteously and shun evil.

Isaiah 33:15; 15He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;”

These humble, ordinary people of God are being trained now to rule with Jesus Christ in the wonderful World Tomorrow.

The Bible says that when Jesus Christ returns, the kingdoms and nations of this world will become the KINGDOM OF GOD.

Revelation 11:15; 15And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.”

Revelation says Jesus Christ is returning as King of kings and Lord of lords.

Revelation 19:16; 16And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

Besides Jesus Christ, there will be many other kings and lords, plural. Revelation also says God has made us kings and priests.

Revelation 1:6; 6And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”

Of course, right now God’s people are kings and priests in embryo. But we are, even now, ambassadors for Christ! We represent God on Earth. That’s why we don’t get involved in the politics or wars of earthly kingdoms.

We’re like the ambassadors and diplomats on Earth right now who represent their home countries in a foreign nation, except we represent the soon-coming Kingdom of God! Paul said in Philippians that “our (citizenship) is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Philippians 3:20; 20For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:”

Jesus Christ is about to return! And when He does, His glorious Bride, the Church, will have made herself ready.

Revelation 19:7; 7Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.”

Ambassadors for Jesus Christ today –  Kings and Priests of God tomorrow.

Thought for the Day – 14 January 2019

Miscellaneous Thought

God’s Ninth Commandment condemns lying.

Exodus 20:16; 16Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.”

Jesus brands Satan a liar and the originator of lying.

John 8:44; 44Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

Lying is sin, which God hates.

Proverbs 6:16-19;16These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:  17A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,  18An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,  19A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”

Those who persist in this sin will ultimately suffer permanent death in the lake of fire.

Romans 6:23; “23For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Revelation 21:8;8But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Satan’s propagation of fake news has corrupted humankind from creation, and he is dedicated to the annihilation of human life.

Isaiah 14:6; “6He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth.”

Isaiah 14:17;17That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?”

Matthew 24:21-22; 21For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.  22And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.”

Revelation 12:9; 9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

Revelation 12:12; 12Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.”

God’s good news, in contrast, is healing, hopeful and peaceful, and it leads to everlasting life.

The good news is that fake news will be gone after Jesus Christ establishes the Kingdom of God on earth following His return.

Mark 7:7; 7Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”

Isaiah 66:23;23And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.”

Humanity will then keep God’s holy laws and Sabbaths –

Hebrews 8:10-11;10For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:  11And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.”

– that liberate us –

James 1:2525But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”

– from spiritual hoaxes and reveal God’s master plan of salvation for all humankind.

God’s good news will overwhelmingly triumph over Satan’s lies and fake news:

John 8:32; 32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Thought for the Day – 13 January 2019

Thought for the Day

The Day will come when our faith will be tested!  The real test of our faith is at the hour of our trial – whatever it may be; failure, betrayal, terminal sickness, loss of a loved one or seemingly unanswered prayer.  At these times, true faith is best displayed on your knees, asking that our Father’s Will be done.  Remember:

1 Peter 5:8;8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”

Romans 10:17;17So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

That doesn’t sound too hard!

And He tells us how!

Psalm 86:7; 7In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.”

We must always understand what we are doing!

Job 28:28;28And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”

This isn’t too hard to understand!

John 13:34 – 35; 34A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.  35By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

Loving, understanding, and forgiving – all together!

Luke 6:37;37Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:”

Matthew 21-22;21Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”

1 Thessalonians 5:17; 17Pray without ceasing.”

And never forget, He is on our side!

Luke 23:34;34Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”

Thought for the Day – 12 January 2019

Thought for the Day

Do you feel the pressure of a selfish world?  Have

you  found yourself becoming  angry easily?

Have you prayed for a heart of kindness?

Maybe we all  should:

Pray for a heart that is tender, meek

and mild like Jesus.

Romans 8:26 – 28; 26Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  27And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.  28And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Ask God to show you how to be kind and compassionate in everything that you do.

1 Peter 3:8-9;8Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:  9Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.”

Ask Him to help you be tenderhearted and forgive others, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Matthew 6: 12,14-16; 12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors….   14For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:  15But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

Colossians 3:12; 12Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;”
